CORKYEES
BOMB SOUNDS - 011001 (Online Magazine)
Rebel Jazz: After a nice little intro tune,
we lead into
the main business with a neatly patterned beats frenzy
followed by various percussion instrumentals, “Rebel
Jazz” opens the LP beautifully.
USS: Ahhhhhh… what a tune, very nice with mix
and matched beats, although the vocals are a bit
strange and different, it brings about a sense of
new diversity that the scene needs to start and incorporate.
Swim into the light: Starting off with a more
understandable vocal, and slow piano sounds,
this tune will sooth anyone’s headache. With nice
breakdowns and soft instrumental pings and pangs,
it’s a winner.
Lamb to the slaughter: Love this tune! Love it. It’s like
something from a scary movie. Very creepy with
vocals that also make ya shiver! Those
sinister synths and slow beats are something you
don’t want to listen to on your own in the night.
Field of Heaven: Another nice tune to chill
out to. Your mind wanders with the optimistic
attitude that this great production puts across.
Again some brilliant orchestra work here, and is
a real meditative piece.
Bagnato: Electronic experience combined with drum
and bass talent, this track represents why corkyees
is hot in Japan. Piano and keyboard elements mix and
shake this tune into a great little roller.
To the shore: Yeh, trippy or what. I have to say,
that this tune actually reminded me of the seaside, and
that was before I looked at the title so that was freaky,
and a testament to how well Coryees has
produced this track. NYO again features, with a
lovely slow and quiet voice, which helps you
to relax and sooth to a great tune.
Kitten: Dreamland, I think the previous track was
meant to send you asleep, so that this track can
get into your mind and play tricks. Only a minute
long, it sounds like something from an eerie movie.
Fish Raw: Definitely think that Japanese instrumental
music has had something to do with this tune.
A very woodwind sounding orchestra plays on this one
with again more vocals. A simple but smooth
sounding production.
KMJ12: Tribal warfare. This has its bongo’s and
tribemen all at the ready as it gears us up for the
next tune.
Exosphere: This tune sounds like two ninja’s are
having a go at each other. Very good drums and
beats that are mesmerising as well as rhythmic.
They are met by some great synths and take
over the atmosphere.
Don’t Rely on me: Again, very much the same sound
that breakbeat era used to present to us. An excellent
piece of work here. NYO hits the button on this
one, singing well and allowing the music to take i
ts course. Like it.
Good for Nothing: Good drums and vocals
bring this track up to scratch right from the offset,
and it kinds of reminds us of the old breakeat
era we all loved to hear. The talent is pouring
outta this one.
Console: Wrapping up the LP is a good slow jam piece,
with soothing vocals and slow instrumental beats.
It sounds like a very lonely track with a tint of sadness to it.
Overall: 10/10 , This is a superb Album. It’s different &
diverse, just what we like. Corkyees have done
a wonderful job, and have massive potential to hit it
big time up there with the likes of Breakbeat Era,
Kosheen and Reprazent. They’ve done it in Japan, now
its Britains turn. Our Fav tracks
are: Don’t rely on me & To the shore
Bomb Sounds have also positioned this
album at No. 1 in their October Chart!
