ASHFELT
From SIDE LINE #44
Review of "Fat Space Acid"
Iris Light often surprises
through the
signature of very particular and original bands!
The UK Ashfelt-duo is already a new illustration
of their good taste! They conceive an intricate
mixture of jungle together with very diversified
noise collages! Don't expect to get into pure
noise treatments, but the decomposed forms
of some structures are a little bit into chaos. I
personally prefer the more organized tracks
where you can find some ambient moods
(cf. "Klik"), dubby influences (cf. "Quaybeat"),
funky bass sounds (cf "People From Jupiter" to
finally reach an undone industrial sensuality
(cf. "Braindead"). There's a lot to experience and
that makes this album that enjoyable! The
hidden jungle rhythmic injects the power and
life into the sound! Several samples from
sci-fi movies have been added as well,
reinforcing the fascination and the originality of
the production! For sure you've to be a lover
of experimental stuff, but this is a very
open-minded experience which can interest
other listeners as well (DP:6)

Trumpet Funk (Original Mix): What a way
to open up an EP.
A clash of ambient instrumental beats and voice samples
dropped in every now and then, along with the continued
drums and symbols played to perfection, this tune is
nothing short of musical talent.
Rating:8/10. Comment:A Top notch production and great
way to introduce the EP.
Fat Space Acid (Isdelicious mix by Zion Train) A very
spiritual opening, with the haunting sounds of a mystfied
vocal. It slowly builds, with drums introduced, and then
this wicked funky Bassline rolls in, stabbing synths and
electronic magnetic vibes set off the tune into full effect with
a
barrage of beats and bass.
Rating:8/10. Comment:Well thought piece of material.
Klik (Remix by Pantonal) What sounds to be a radio tuning
in on a speech, starts off this tune, and then rising
beats are introduced. A very weird opening, almost
psychodelic in its own way. Actually that is a good
way to describe the entire track, "Psychodelic". After the
experimental soundz break down, the male vocals from
the beginning are back, being cut up, looped and pumped
full of helium! A very good tune that passes all spectrums
of experimental music.
Rating:8/10. Comment:Again, as good as the previous two tunes.
Trumpet
Funk (Past Cerebus Mix by 'Ayin) A very quiet
and slow tune, full of atmospheric elements, there isn't
any substance to the track, and is simply a chill out and
lie back instrumental / ambient experience.
Rating:6/10. Comment:Doesn't surpass the origianl verison,
but then again was it meant to?
Overall: 8/10 , A brilliantly packaged EP, with enough
experimental pizazz to cause an atom explosion.
